FS6 Community News and UpdatesAfter an inspiring month of learning alongside our most recent cohort, we are excited to celebrate the completion of the Huhtamaki Circular Economy Startup Program by FS6 and welcome these eight innovators into the broader Food System 6 ecosystem!
Eight start-ups have been selected to receive mentorship, and up to $300,000 in grants to develop innovative circular economy solutions San Francisco, October 19th, 2020 - Today, the impact-focused startup accelerator, Food System 6 (FS6), is announcing the eight early-stage companies from around the world selected to participate in their new Circular Economy program, launched in partnership with global sustainable packaging solutions leader, Huhtamaki. The purpose of the Huhtamaki Circular Economy Start-up Program by Food System 6 is to accelerate the development of young and promising companies working to deliver innovative sustainable solutions in areas such as waste management, sustainable packaging alternatives, new materials innovation, and regenerative production models. Over the 8 weeks of application outreach and selection for the upcoming Huhtamaki Circular Economy Startup Program by FS6, we heard from an expansive group of innovators from around the world and across many sectors of the circular economy. Applications came in from 51 countries and ranged from small-scale big-impact regional solutions to large-scale global innovations.
These solutions represented many of the leaders of our present and future food system and, as such, provided an incredible opportunity for learning and a preview into what may come next in the evolution of the circular economy. Here are some insights that we have gathered through this process about what is happening around the world to usher in a more sustainable and circular future for our planet and its inhabitants: This episode of Dig-In is focused on learning more about the 5th Cohort of FS6 entrepreneurs - and diving into some of the issues that they are addressing through their innovations.
About the cohort: Cohort 5 is largely focused on supporting the farmers, ranchers, producers, and do-ers that are the foundation of any sustainable food system. As part of this year's program, we are thinking more and more about the infrastructure necessary to implement and bolster sustainable solutions, and how to better take care of the employees that are on the ground running these businesses day-to-day. Read on to learn more. Nina Meijers of Rabobank’s FoodBytes! and Claire Schlemme of Renewal Mill are joining us to talk about building 21st century food businesses. We’re talking to Nina and Claire side by side to understand how FoodBytes supports innovation and the opportunity for entrepreneurs. It’s a conversation on the diversity of ideas, technology, and products that characterize future food enterprises, the collaborations that enable innovation, and how the Covid crisis is accelerating the pace of change.
Amidst the challenges of Covid-19, FS6 is excited to welcome the expertise of three Entrepreneurs-in-Residence to the team- as well as celebrate FS6 CEO, Caesaré Assad, for being recognized for her passion and leadership in the world of food and agriculture.
