The Newport Community Garden Project
The Newport Community Garden Project is a collaborative initiative by the town of Newport, WA - a town, like many across rural America, that faces untenably high rates of food insecurity, unemployment, and homelessness. As an officially recognized food desert, the citizens of Newport and the surrounding communities are at an increased risk for the many health challenges associated with a lack of access to fresh, healthy food.
This project is designed to elevate the community of Newport by cultivating inclusive opportunities for employment, access to fresh food, agricultural education, and a sense of belonging. With a growing list of partners - including the Washington State University (WSU) Extension Program, SNAP-Ed, the WSU Master Gardener Program, and Food System 6, the Newport Community Garden Project is well on its way to achieving its vision for a healthy and prosperous Newport.
The Newport Community Garden Project is fiscally sponsored by Food System 6.
