Open Letter from CEO, Caesaré Assad

Dear FS6 Community,

I transitioned into the CEO position just months before COVID-19 took us all by storm. Faced with difficult decisions about the direction of our organization and unsure of our own financial future as a non-profit, Food System 6 forged ahead to find the most determined, most promising entrepreneurs confronting the worst food crisis in modern U.S. history.

What we found was incredible. Even in the midst of chaos, our entrepreneurs dedicated their most valuable resource - their time - to receiving support and building community within the safe and trusted space carved out by Food System 6. Our team worked countless hours with these cohorts, as we drilled down into each of their businesses and found creative ways to strengthen their strategies and ensure that fresh, healthy food was being grown, distributed and accessed in equitable, regenerative ways in their communities.

On June 22, we gather together to celebrate our most recent cohort of nine inspiring entrepreneurs (from across seven states!) and embark on an honest conversation about the potential of a post-pandemic food system. I would like to personally invite you to join us for this year’s “Innovating for Impact” Forum. Although it is a virtual event and we still seem so far away from one another, your presence really makes a difference.

This year is a make or break year for Food System 6. The demand from innovative food entrepreneurs across the country is at an all-time high and the industry is ripe for transformation, but it’s going to take a significant increase in our organizational capacity to meet this critical moment. We must raise $250,000 to launch our next cohort and we are asking for the help of our FS6 community to do it. Whether you are able to give $50 or $50,000, we invite you to become a part of seeding our vision for community-sponsored cohorts.

I have never felt more certain that a “sixth” food system -- one that is just and regenerative --  is within our reach. After you meet this year’s cohort on June 22, I know you will feel that certainty too.

EVENT: Innovating for Impact - Presenting FS6 Cohort 7

 This year marks the 7th annual FS6 Forum event and will showcase the work of the Cohort 7 companies. Throughout the program, we will explore the role of community food systems, regional stability, and inclusive technology in building a sixth food system centered on justice and regeneration.
